  The day that changed Europe

  9 November

  The date 9 November has marked several crossroads in European history. On the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the day is being commemorated with a flood of interesting seminars, discussions, exhibitions and theatre performances, as part of an event organised by Stockholm City Theatre in collaboration with the Swedish EU Presidency and Stiftelsen Natur & Kultur.

  EU Affairs Minister cooks and talks about Baltic cooperation

  The flavours of the Baltic Sea and European cooperation were in focus when the Presidency, together with Kulturhuset in Stockholm, kicked off the Live Food series yesterday evening. Chef Rune Kalf-Hansen chatted with Minister for EU Affairs Cecilia Malmström and Renata Chlumska, one of the world's most talented adventurers.

  Travellers wrote climate lists and signed climate appeals at Stockholm Central Station

  ”Use public transport, cycle and walk more. Use your car as little as possible!” That was the message most travellers chose for their climate lists when they took their time to give suggestions for what we can do as individuals to reduce our impact on the climate.

  Secondary school teachers learnt more about the EU

  On Wednesday, 28 October a professional development day for upper secondary school social science teachers took place at Oscarsteatern in Stockholm. Minister for EU Affairs Cecilia Malmström opened the day, which aimed to provide information about how teachers can work with EU issues in the classroom, what materials are available and the best way to use these materials in lessons.

  The Swedish Presidency and its priorities were the theme of a lunch seminar at Bibliotekshuset in Karlstad on 25 August. Leading representatives of organisations and government agencies in the region took the opportunity to discuss the role of the regions in Europe.

  EUROemotion – children’s artwork exhibition in Brussels

  The EUROemotion exhibition opened on Thursday, 29 October at Stockholm House in Brussels. The exhibition is made up of pictures drawn by Solna’s pre-school and primary school pupils on the theme of “my feelings about the EU”.

  The Presidency at Göteborg Book Fair

  24–27 September

  This year, Göteborg Book Fair celebrates its 25th anniversary. The focus will be on Spain, while the 200th anniversary of Finland’s separation from Sweden will also be marked, and the theme of exclusion will be explored. The Government Offices will be there with a stand and participation by ministers and young reporters.
