The Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council meets at least four times a year. The issues on the agenda determine which ministers meet at a given session.
During the Swedish Presidency, the transition to an eco-efficient economy will be the focus. In brief, an eco-efficient economy means combining competitiveness with environmental responsibility, and making the most of the opportunities for jobs and growth resulting from an increased demand for environmentally sound products, services and solutions.
Energy issues will also continue to be a high priority, particularly in view of the international climate negotiations. Other issues on the agenda during the Presidency include the upcoming Telecommunications Package and new, sustainable transport solutions.
Two informal ministerial meetings in this area are being held in Sweden during the Presidency. The EU energy ministers met in July, and in October the competitiveness ministers will meet in Umeå.
