Travellers wrote climate lists and signed climate appeals at Stockholm Central Station

”Use public transport, cycle and walk more. Use your car as little as possible!” That was the message most travellers chose for their climate lists when they took their time to give suggestions for what we can do as individuals to reduce our impact on the climate.

Travellers wrote climate lists and signed climate appeals at Stockholm Central Station

The Swedish EU Presidency and the UN on-site
Many travellers stopped by to talk about the climate with representatives from the Swedish EU Presidency and the UN at Stockholm Central Station. The Presidency magazine went like hot cakes, the UN climate appeal ‘Seal the Deal!’ was signed, badges with photographs and personal climate messages were made and climate lists with suggestions for what you and society can do to counteract climate change were written.

Climate proposals
Climate lists soon filled with suggestions for what people can do to reduce their impact on the climate. Margareta Jansson from Åkersberga, along with most visitors, suggested using public transport or cycling and walking as much as possible instead of using cars. Renée Ahlgren from Stockholm was one of the travellers suggesting recycling as much waste as possible.   There were also many proposals about what you can do in your home, such as switching off the lights when you leave a room, turning off electrical equipment rather than letting them remain on stand-by and turning down the heat. Some of the proposals for society in general included using the congestion charges to subsidise public transport, introducing an air fuel tax and investing money in public transport with trunk lines.

Ahead of Copenhagen
The climate-themed exhibition was open between 06.30 and 19.00 on Thursday, 22 October as part of European Development Days at Stockholm International Fairs on 22-24 October.

Keep an eye out for the Presidency!

Informal ministerial meetings will be held in seven different locations. There will also be a variety of activities for local residents, such as seminars, exhibitions and readings by authors. These activities will be on the themes of climate change and the Baltic Sea Strategy, both key issues during the Presidency.
