EU conference on consumer protection on the Internet

More and more people are buying digital content, such as music or films, on the Internet. Despite this, there remains a legal uncertainty concerning consumers’ rights, particularly regarding provisions on faulty goods and digital content services.

How should consumer protection be designed when consumers buy software, games, music or films via download from the Internet? What rules should apply if the software does not work or if it damages my computer? How can consumer protection be enhanced in this fast-growing market?

These and other issues will be the focus of an EU conference on 4 November in Stockholm. Minister for Consumer Affairs Nyamko Sabuni will host the conference, and speakers will include EU Consumer Commissioner Meglena Kuneva and Monique Goyens from the European Consumers’ Organisation (BEUC).

Experts in the area of consumer rights and representatives of consumer organisations and the business sector will also offer their views and experiences in the course of the day.
